Ricardo Santos retained the title he won last year with a narrow one shot victory, carding a 3 under par total of 141 at San Lorenzo, over Sam Buss and first round leader David Dixon.
Dixon led after the first round with a fine 4 under par 68 that should have been a whole lot better but for a triple bogey 7 at the final hole which gobbled up 3 of the remaining 7 birdies he had carefully acquired. His nearest challengers on 2 under par were the eventual winner Santos, Pinheiros Altos winner Pedro Figueiredo and Adam Chapman.
Ricardo’s brother Hugo stole some of the limelight of the first round with a Hole in One on the sixteenth but it failed to help his cause on this occasion.
The second day proved to be a breezy affair and San Lorenzo bared her teeth making it a tough day for the players and so it proved to be with just 10 players getting around in under par. Dixon, could get nothing going and fell back into the pack as the main challengers played steady but unspectacular golf. Sam Buss shot a very nice 3 under par 69 but his first round of one over proved to be costly as he posted a 2 under par total. Dixon battled his way round but in the end had to settle for a tie with Buss and a share of second place.
Finally, it was the very experienced Ricardo Santos who managed to hang on for the win, despite taking a bogey 5 at the last. We now head home for the Christmas and New Year break but there are some exciting things to look forward too in 2017 which will be revealed very soon.
